Antoine Semenyo’s second strike for Bournemouth against Liverpool has entered Premier League history as one of the longest solo runs ending in a goal.
His 52.4-metre carry now ranks 10th on the all-time list for goal-ending ball carries since the 2015-16 season, pushing Jesse Lingard’s 51.6-metre effort in 2021 out of the top 10.
It is also the third-longest in the league since 2021-22, behind only Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi (54.7m) and Anthony Elanga (54.1m), both scored against Manchester United.
The Ghanaian forward’s moment of brilliance came in the 76th minute of Friday’s season opener at Anfield, when he surged from inside his own half, brushing past Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté before firing low past Alisson to briefly level the game at 2-2.
Despite ultimately losing 4-2 to the reigning champions, Bournemouth’s threat on the counter was once again evident under Andoni Iraola, whose side remain among the league’s most dangerous teams in transition.
Semenyo’s run, which took just seven seconds, highlighted both his directness and Bournemouth’s ability to exploit space on the break.
The 25-year-old has now scored four goals from carries since the start of last season, a tally bettered by only six Premier League players.
He also became the first visiting player to net twice at Anfield in a league match since Leandro Trossard’s hat-trick for Brighton in September 2022.
