Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has declared his determination to return to the Black Stars as Otto Addo’s side prepares for crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Owusu made his Ghana debut in March 2022, playing a crucial role in the playoff against Nigeria that secured World Cup qualification. But injuries have since sidelined him from recent call-ups. Now, fully fit, the Auxerre midfielder is pushing to force his way back into the squad.
“I’m so motivated to play for Ghana,” he said firmly. “To be in the team means a lot. I’ll do my maximum, my best to be in the team, and we’ll let the coach decide.”
Ghana faces a stern test in Group I of the qualifiers, drawn against Mali, Madagascar and the Central African Republic. Two wins in September against Chad and Mali could place the Black Stars firmly in control of their qualification bid.
Owusu admits the challenge excites him. Playing consistently in Ligue 1 has strengthened his case, and his growing leadership role at Auxerre offers further credibility.
His bond with new teammate Ibrahim Osman, another Ghana international, has also reignited his hunger. “I’m so happy to have another Ghanaian in the team. I played with Ibrahim Osman at the national team. He’s a talent that everybody wants to see play here.”
