Heart of Lions assistant coach Daniel Nii Adjei has expressed disappointment after his side suffered another defeat to Hearts of Oak in the 2025 Gbese Mantse Charity Cup.
The Kpando-based club lost 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, marking their second consecutive setback against the Phobians in the annual fixture.
Hearts of Oak sealed the win with two first-half goals, as new signing Frank Duku opened the scoring before Hamza Issah doubled the advantage.
The result handed head coach Mas Ud Didi Dramani his first trophy since taking charge, while extending Lions’ frustrations in the competition.
Nii Adjei admitted the back-to-back defeats were difficult to accept.
“I will say I am a bit disappointed because losing two times is not a good thing, but that’s football, if you work you can win,” he told MaxTV.
Reflecting on the match, the veteran midfielder pointed to costly lapses but stressed the team would use the setback as part of their preparations.
“I think there were some lapses that caused us this defeat so we are going to work on it [and] we are still preparing for this league because last season we did very well and this season people are watching us to do very well.”
Attention now turns to the 2025 GHALCA Top Four tournament, where Heart of Lions will face league champions Bibiani Gold Stars, FA Cup winners Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
