Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has strongly opposed the extension of the presidential term limit.
The GFA officially approved the change from two to three terms during the 31st Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday.
Out of 123 delegates who voted, 114 supported the amendment, six opposed it, and three abstained. This decision amends the 2019 GFA statutes, which previously limited the presidency to two four-year terms.
“Why do people want to stay in power for a longer period?” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe questioned in an interview aired on Lawson FM. “The reason for the extension is simple â just to steal. Personally, I am against it and will always be against this extension.”
Kurt Okraku, who became GFA President in 2019, is serving his second term, set to end in 2027. It remains unclear whether he will seek a third term. Okraku also serves as the second vice president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
