Storied Baba Yara Stadium holds special place in hearts of Ghanaians â?? Sports Minister
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the governments commitment to rehabilitating the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, describing it as a venue of great historical and emotional significance to Ghanaians.Speaking during an inspection tour of the facility in Kumasi on Wednesday, the Minister emphasised that the Baba Yara Stadium must be restored to international standards after years of decline.He was joined by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene and a team of technical officers from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.The visit revealed the stadiums deterioration, including broken floodlights, damaged washrooms, an outdated public address system, worn-out benches, high power costs, and faulty irrigation systems. Security lapses in restricted areas were also flagged.This stadium has a storied history and holds a special place in the hearts of Ghanaians. We are committed to ensuring it meets international standards once again, Adams said.The Baba Yara Stadium was recently declared unfit to host international fixtures by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).Beyond sports, this facility has the capacity to boost local economic activity. We are committed to restoring its value and purpose, Adams added.
