The Accra High Court has ruled in favor of former Hearts of Oak Commercial Affairs Manager, Charles Kwarteng, ordering the club to pay him GHS 108,637 as compensation for wrongful dismissal.
Kwarteng took legal action against the Ghanaian giants after his contract was allegedly breached, seeking compensation for outstanding entitlements dating back to 2019. His claims included unpaid salaries, fuel allowances, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions, and mandatory Tier 2 pension contributions.
The former official first sought redress from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), but the Player Status Committee declined to rule on the matter, citing the absence of a certified employment contract. Dissatisfied with the decision, Kwarteng escalated the case to the High Court, leading to the recent ruling.
Kwarteng, who joined Hearts of Oak in 2019 as General Manager for Commercial and Merchandising, later had his role redefined as Chief Commercial Officer. He played a key role in the clubs marketing and branding strategies before resigning in 2021, shortly after the Phobians secured a domestic double.
With this ruling, Hearts of Oak are expected to settle the awarded sum, bringing closure to the long-standing legal dispute. The club is yet to issue an official statement on the verdict.
