Members of the Minority New Patriotic Party on the Health Committee of Parliament has condemned the alleged actions of Ralph St Williams at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to a press release, signed by Nana Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member on the Health Committee, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, Accra, on Tuesday, “St Williams stormed the hospital premises with a group of men, shouting aggressively, filming health professionals, patients, and visitors without consent, and causing undue disruption.”
The released noted that, “Hospitals are places of care, healing, and confidentiality; they are not theaters for political theatrics or disruptive conduct.”
The said St Williams’ behavior constituted an affront to public order, patient privacy, and the dignity of health professionals.
It also pointed out an alleged worrying pattern of behavior by St Williams, including a recent public altercation with a Member of Parliament on the Minority Side that required police intervention.
“It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the government has, by its silence and gestures of accommodation, given license to individuals aligned with or sympathetic to the National Democratic Congress to engage in needless acts of intimidation, disorder, and political violence under the guise of activism,” the release added.
The Minority Caucus called on the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the incident and take necessary legal action.
It also urged the Minister of Health to jointly set up an inquiry with the parliamentary select committee on health to unravel the issues leading to the incident.
“The sanctity of our health facilities must be preserved at all times, and under no circumstances should political opportunism or governmental negligence be allowed to compromise the peace and safety of these vital institutions.
“We extend our deepest apologies to the management, staff, patients, and visitors of Ridge Hospital for the disruption caused by this wholly unwarranted intrusion,” it stated.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has also condemned the alleged attack on health workers, describing it as unacceptable and a threat to patient safety.
The Ministry has announced plans to strengthen security at the hospital and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
