The Berekum Traditional Council in the Bono Region says the kingmakers have successfully selected the rightful candidate to occupy the Berekum Paramount stool.
The stool became vacant two years after the death of the late Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II, the Paramount Chief of the Berekum Traditional Area, on June 9, 2023 at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
He was known in private life as Dr Leonard Ofori, a German trained medical practitioner.
Osabarima Nana Agyeman Asomah Sabi II, the Krontrihene (sub-chief) of the Berekum Traditional Council, said the rightful candidate would be outdoored soon and urged the people to remain calm.
Osabarima Nana Agyeman Asomah Sabi II, also the Chief of Senase in the traditional area, disclosed this when he interacted with some chiefs, queens and a section of the public at a dinner, he organised to mark his 70th birthday celebration at Senase.
He urged the chiefs and people of the area to also cooperate for the subsequent enstoolment of the new paramount chief.
Osabarima Sabi II emphasized that the kingmakers strictly adhered to the culture and tradition of the people and followed the due process in selecting the rightful candidate, and urged the youth to also respect the decision of the kingmakers.
He said the traditional council and the kingmakers, in particular, were not in any position to give-in to influences in the selection of the qualified candidates.
Osabarima Sabi II indicated that chieftaincy disputes only retarded the progressive development, saying now that the rightful candidate had been selected, there was the need for the feuding factions to bury their differences for the purpose of peace and social cohesion.
He also urged the people to be interested in the development of the area, instead of fanning traditional conflicts that potentially thwarted progressive growth.
Osabarima Sabi II recollected an incident where some unidentified people set his private residence ablaze three years ago due to the chieftaincy dispute.
However, the Krontrihene stressed the need for the people to strengthen and protect the prevailing peace of the area, urging them to forge ahead in unity and contribute to the holistic development of the traditional area.
