Ghana is the hope for Africa–spiritually, democratically, economically and socially. And Ghana must strive to consolidate this status to fulfil the will of God.
The Global Chairman of the Assemblies of God Fellowship, Rev. Dominic Yeo, made this point in Accra when he launched the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress to be hosted by Ghana.
“Surely, the coming Congress is one which is stamped with divine purpose and laced with incredible honour. Ghana stands out as the very first nation in the whole of Africa to earn such hosting rights,” Rev. Yeo added.
He praised Ghana for being “a beacon of democratic governance, credible elections, respect for constitutionally permissible term limits, smooth transfer of power, durable peace, the rule of law, respect for human rights, religious tolerance, inter-faith harmony, freedom of expression and freedom of the media.”
He said the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress will open the floodgates for more than 100,000 delegates from all over the globe to visit the country. The impact on local businesses, air and road transport, investment opportunities, the tourism industry and the international profile of Ghana is incalculable.
Rev. Yeo said the Congress will complement the strides of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which is headquartered in Accra. “That continental economic vehicle creates a 1.3 billion person market, the largest free trade area in the world, as well as a 3.4 billion dollar GDP. It is projected that incomes could rise by 9% by 2035 and lift 50 million people in Africa out of poverty,” he pointed out.
The Global Chairman, however, said the fight against spiritual poverty is the topmost priority of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.
“To this end, we shall leave no stone unturned to fulfil the Lord’s command to evangelise lost souls and provide them with the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel within the shortest possible time,” he stated.
According to Rev. Yeo, the “2026 World Congress in Accra provides a unique platform to amplify this spiritual point and reinforce our strategic initiatives to achieve the MM33 Agenda. This Agenda is a covenant – driven, and Spirit-empowered plan to establish one million Assemblies of God churches throughout the world by 2033. That year marks the 2,000th anniversary of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the Day of Pentecost, which is the birthday of the church.”
Rev. Yeo announced that the Global Assemblies of God Fellowship is currently the largest Pentecostal movement in the world with 89 million members.
He pledged the support of the Fellowship for Ghana to host a successful world congress.
The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, said hosting a congress of such magnitude “is as an all-consuming task which must be executed with all-consuming seriousness.” This, he said, would vindicate the rectitude of choosing Ghana as the host, and result in the church leaving an indelible imprint on the rock of time.
Rev. Wengam said an array of programmes, including mass spiritual rallies for all denominations, have been designed to “vivify the church and glorify our God.”
The Executive Chairman of First Sky Group, Eric Seddy Kutortse, who was the Special Guest of Honour, said the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress “is not just another international event, it is a divine appointment and a heavenly summons. And as Ghana prepares to receive the world, may this Congress become a moment of awakening, a revival that reshapes how the world sees the African Church.”
