Mr Ntebe Ayo William, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatale-Sanguli Constituency in the Northern Region, has extended financial support to 50 brilliant but needy students in a bid to bridge the educational gap and foster human development in the area.
The initiative, funded through the MP’s Common Fund, is designed to enable deserving young people to pursue higher education and contribute to national development after graduation.
The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Tatale District Assembly Hall, where the MP presented scholarship packages to the beneficiaries. The students, drawn from various communities within the constituency, were selected for their exceptional academic performance despite facing financial difficulties. The support covers tuition fees, books, accommodation and other essential expenses at tertiary institutions across the country.
Mr William underscored the importance of education as a cornerstone of sustainable development, stating: “Assisting these young ones to further their studies will help curb poverty and enable them to harness their potential to become good future leaders for the constituency and the nation as a whole. Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth and breaking the cycle of poverty in Tatale-Sanguli.”
He stressed that the MP’s Common Fund, a share of national resources allocated to parliamentarians for constituency development, must be strategically utilised, with education as a priority. He noted that the selection of beneficiaries was conducted transparently by a committee to ensure the aid reached those most in need.
The MP advised the students to take full advantage of the opportunity by studying diligently to achieve their goals and honour the purpose of the support.
District Chief Executive for Tatale-Sanguli, Mary Tagba, commended the initiative, noting that it aligned with national goals of equitable access to quality education as outlined in Ghana’s Education Strategic Plan.
Since his election in the 2024 general elections, Mr William has spearheaded several education-focused projects, including improvements to school infrastructure and teacher training programmes.
One beneficiary, a 19-year-old aspiring medical laboratory scientist from Sangban, expressed gratitude, saying: “This scholarship means the world to me. My family could not afford university fees, but now I can pursue my dream of becoming a biomedical laboratory scientist and giving back to my community.”
Residents and traditional authorities in the constituency also praised the MP for his commitment to education, with many hopeful that the intervention will yield long-term benefits for local development.
