The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GhCCI) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of eight prominent citizens in a tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, while en route to Obuasi.
In a public statement, the Chamber offered heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Speaker of Parliament, Parliamentarians, the Government, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the families of the deceased.
According to the Chamber, this tragic accident is not just a blow to the state, but a painful shock to the national conscience.
“It highlights the deep sacrifice made by public servants who served Ghana with courage and commitment. All eight victims were on active national duty at the time of the crash,” it added.
The deceased include Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
It further described this loss as a national tragedy, noting that these individuals were more than public officials. “They were defenders of peace, champions of sustainable development, and patriots who gave their lives to building the nation. Their service and sacrifice would never be forgotten,” it elaborated.
As a leading voice in the infrastructure sector, GhCCI urged the government to seriously evaluate the safety, readiness, and reliability of the country’s transport logistics, especially those used for high-level national assignments. Furthermore, it emphasised that in today’s world, it is unacceptable for leaders to lose their lives in avoidable accidents while on official duty.
The chamber also called for a full-scale audit and overhaul of the nation’s air transportation assets and safety protocols. It stressed that safety must never be treated as an afterthought and warned that outdated or unfit equipment must not be allowed to carry high-profile government officials.
Moreover it urged the country to turn this tragedy into a moment of reflection and transformation, and not just mourning. It called on all citizens to honour the memory of the fallen by committing to a safer and more accountable nation.
The statement was signed by the Chairman of GhCCI, Surveyor Emmanuel Nene Martey, who also offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and comfort for their families.
