
The tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of senior government officials and others this week has thrown the entire nation into a state of mourning with the president declaring flags should fly at half-mast for three days.
Condolences have come from the African Union, ECOWAS, fraternal African states like Nigeria, Namibia among a host of others, senior statesmen like J.A. Kufour, Nana Akufo-Addo, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP party and all manner of people far and wide.
In line with the state of mourning that the country is engulfed in, B&FT would like to use our platform to express our heartfelt sorrow and condolences to immediate families of the deceased and the entire nation for this profound loss.
Wednesday, August 6, 2025 will long live in the memory of Ghanaians and remain as one of the darkest moments of recent history. Thankfully, search and rescue efforts led by national security operatives have retrieved the bodies.
Those who tragically lost their lives in the incident included Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed; and Dr. Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Also among the dead were Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo. They were reportedly en route to Obuasi on official assignment when the accident occurred.
Traditional leaders in the Sikaman community, located within Akrofrom stool lands in the Adansi Akrofuom district of Ashanti Region, have announced plans to perform purification rites following the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6.
According to local opinion leaders, the traditional purification rites are intended to cleanse the land and restore spiritual harmony following the tragic event.
Investigations to identify the cause of the crash are underway as preparations for burial commence. The bodies of all eight deceased persons were received by the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and other dignitaries amid prayers that were offered by the clergy.
