Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah, has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to consider the creation of a football museum to preserve the industry’s rich football heritage and immortalise legendary personalities.
He argued that a Ghana Football Hall of Fame or Museum to showcase iconic moments and memorabilia would be more attractive and marketable, indicating that such an initiative matters because it is a cultural preservation tool, as it captures the folklore and achievements of Ghanaian football legends.
It will also inspire the youth, offering a tangible connection to the past for young fans and players, as well as drive tourism and revenue.
Mr. Debrah challenged GFA President Kurt Okraku to take up the initiative, promising government support and encouraging corporate Ghana to back the project.
“We’ll look for the corporate organisations to back you up… It will be beautiful as a sports nation to have a museum. Let’s talk about Wilberforce Mfum, who could kick a shot to a torn net. What if you go look for the remnants of that net and say: ‘Go to the Ghana Football Museum and see what he damaged?
“We’ve heard about Robert Mensah and the mystical Kuli Hai cap he wore through 90 minutes without it falling. Or Mohammed Polo’s legendary dribbles; why not display his jersey or boots in a museum for the youth to see?” he said.
The Chief of Staff made these remarks during the unveiling ceremony of the new Adesa Productions–GFA television broadcast deal for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
GFA, Sports Ministry and Adesa Productions partnership
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has officially launched a new broadcasting deal with Adesa Productions, aimed at elevating the media profile and visibility of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The deal, which was launched with fanfare at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, ushers in a new era for the top-flight league, complete with the massive participation fee for the clubs before the season kicks off in September, double the amount Bibiani Gold Stars earned for winning the 2024/25 league title.
GFA President, Edwin Simeon-Okraku, in his remarks, said: “This is not a grant. This is not just a number. It’s the difference between delayed salaries and timely payments; between outdated medical rooms and fully equipped health centres; between empty stands and vibrant, media-ready stadia.”
Bold vision
Under the deal, Adesa Productions Limited will lead the production, branding, marketing and broadcasting of the league, with the promise of delivering high-quality, world-class content across multiple platforms to local and international audiences.
However, the partnership goes far beyond just TV rights. At the heart of this project is a complete commercial rethink, built on sustainability, innovation and a dynamic public-private sector collaboration.
The newly formed entity, the Ghana Premiership Football Company Limited, is to serve as the commercial and operational arm of the league, reducing the burden on clubs and laying the foundation for long-term financial sustainability.
