The Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has gone to the aid of the 70 traders who had their stalls gutted by fire at the Race Course market last Monday.
She presented building materials worth about GHc150,000 for the reconstruction of the portion of the market affected by the fire outbreak.
Mrs. Osei-Opare has provided 70 bags of cement – 1,000 pieces of 2×4 boards, 400 pieces of roofing sheets, two trips of sand, 70 boxes of assorted nails and 20 galvanised poles.
The Chief of Staff has also expressed her preparedness to foot the cost of workmanship on the reconstruction.
The Queen mother of the Bantama Race Course market, Nana Afia Kyeiwaa, on behalf of the traders and victims thanked their benefactor for the quick response to their plight.
She said the Chief of Staff has, by her deeds, proven that she is a mother and cared about the welfare of women in general and wished her well in her political career and aspirations.
Deaconess Esther Sasu and Madam Kaakyire Badu, market leaders, also thanked the Chief of Staff for the prompt action to address their concerns and hoped the support would go a long way to alleviate their plight.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament Bantama, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Sam Pyne and the Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako have, since the unfortunate incident, taken turns to commiserate with the fire victims and assured them of their support.
