The General Secretary of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Godfred Abulbire, has revealed the recently launched ‘tap n’ go’ application will help taxi drivers earn more money.
“With the app, just like the already existing digital taxi apps, a driver does not need to move around in search of a passenger, all he needs is a parking spot and you would get a notification on where your next passenger is,” he said.
He said the app will help reduce taxi drivers’ expenditure on fuel and as such, prevent drivers from overusing their cars.
According to him, the traditional taxi business is currently not as fruitful as it once was due to the introduction of many foreign online taxi apps. The initiative by GPRTU, in collaboration with the office of the Vice President, will invigorate the taxi business.
Mr. Abulbire added that due to passengers having their details registered on the app, the security of drivers is assured.
The ‘tap n’ go’ app is currently being piloted in East Legon, Kaneshie, Airport, University of Ghana, Circle and Dansoman in Accra, before it will be rolled out nationwide next year.
Cautioning drivers, National Chairman – GPRTU, Nana Nimako Bresiamah, told drivers not to use the app to extort from Ghanaians. “We want to use this app effectively and passionately to offer Ghanaians great services, so we can continue to protect the integrity of the union.”
