A near-scare incident on Sunday afternoon (May 25, 2025) prompted the temporary evacuation of hundreds of Ghanaian Hajj pilgrims from the Rafahya Al-Seteen Hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The exact cause of the alarm remains unclear, but conflicting reports from sources at the hotel suggest a possible fire incident or structural concerns on the 12th floor.
While some claimed there was a fire, others reported that “the 12th floor was breaking down,” leading to widespread panic among guests.
Emergency responders, including Saudi fire and police officials, quickly arrived on the scene and brought the situation under control. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Despite the resolution, several occupants—among them Ghanaian pilgrims—were seen lingering outside the hotel for an extended period, reluctant to return to their rooms due to lingering fear and uncertainty.
The incident comes as pilgrims from around the world continue to arrive in Mecca for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. Ghanaian Hajj authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
