Real Madrid has officially announced the appointment of Xabi Alonso as their new manager, effective June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028.
The Spanish tactician will succeed Carlo Ancelotti, who has departed to take the helm of the Brazilian national team. Alonso, a legendary figure in Real Madrid’s history and world football, played 236 official matches for the Spanish giants between 2009 and 2014, scoring six goals and providing 31 assists.
During his playing career, Alonso won six titles with Real Madrid, including the tenth Champions League title, European Super Cup, La Liga title, two Copa del Rey titles, and Spanish Super Cup.
He also enjoyed success with the Spanish national team, winning the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships (2008 and 2012) in 114 international appearances.
Alonso’s coaching journey began at Real Madrid’s youth academy, where he led the U14 A team to league and Champions Tournament titles in the 2018-2019 season.
After achieving remarkable success at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the league unbeaten, cup, and German Super Cup in three seasons, Alonso returns to Real Madrid as one of the world’s top coaches in Europe.
On Monday, May 26, at 12:30 p.m., Alonso will be formally introduced as the new Real Madrid coach at an event that would be held at Real Madrid City.
