Asante Kotoko interim coach Karim Zito says he is not responsible for the Porcupine Warriors’ struggles in front of goal followong their 0-0 draw against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Kotoko needed to secure a win to close the gap on league leaders GoldStars to keep their title hopes alive.
However, despite their best attempts, Asante Kotoko were unable to bury their chances, with the closest they came to breaking the deadlock coming in the second half.
Second half substitute Saaka Dauda drilled an angled finish wide of Benjamin Asare’s goal as the game ended goalless.
Kotoko are now yet to score more than one goal in their last 10 games in the league, despite Karim Zito opting for Albert Amoah and Kwame Opoku – Kotoko’s highest scorers – to lead the attack.
Reflecting on Kotoko’s struggles in front of goal, Zito said:
“Putting the ball in the net is the ability and capability of the player. We teach them how to score.
Kotoko are the lowest scoring side among the league’s top four, a problem Zito has been working on since taking charge of the club two weeks ago.
“Every match we play, we play in the training ground before. Friday, I did finishing. I do finishing, finishing. Because, when I came, I saw that finishing was the problem.”
“So now, we are creating, we are left to put the ball in the back of the net so this is where we have reached now. The next game you’ll see.”
Kotoko are five points adrift of the top of the table and face Berekum Chelsea next weekend.
