The Cyber Security Expert Association of Ghana (CSEAG) has called on MTN Ghana to demonstrate full transparency and accountability following a recent cybersecurity breach that affected approximately 5,700 customers.
According to the association, the breach has raised serious concerns about potential insider involvement and exposed the need for stronger internal security systems.
In a press release issued on Sunday, May 4, 2025, and signed by its President, Abubakar Issaka, the CSEAG urged MTN Ghana to cooperate fully with relevant regulatory bodies, including the Cyber Security Authority and the Data Protection Commission. The association also emphasized the need for the company to share its findings transparently with both authorities and the general public.
“We expect MTN’s leadership to cooperate fully with regulators and share their findings transparently,” said Issaka. “Cybersecurity is not merely a technical concern—it is a core leadership responsibility.”
The association reiterated the importance of investing in skilled cybersecurity professionals and elevating cybersecurity to the executive and boardroom level.
In the wake of the breach, CSEAG advised affected MTN customers and the public at large to remain vigilant. Recommendations include updating mobile and banking applications, using strong passwords, and avoiding the sharing of sensitive personal information.
The incident has reignited calls for stronger collaboration between industry players, government institutions, and civil society to enhance Ghana’s cyber defenses and restore public confidence in digital platforms.
CSEAG affirmed its commitment to supporting all national efforts to improve cybersecurity resilience across the country.
