On Friday, April 25, 2025, residents of Boi Town, a residential community located between Abokobi and Old Ashongman in the Greater Accra Region, reported that a group of armed individuals in military uniforms stormed the area and attempted to demolish privately owned homes.
The group reportedly claimed they were acting under orders from the Flagstaff House.
According to residents, the individuals arrived with bulldozers and began marking or dismantling structures. Boi Town, which comprises more than 500 houses and is approximately 80% occupied, is home to civil servants, security personnel, lecturers, retirees, and professionals.
Eyewitnesses allege that when some residents approached to question the group’s actions, they were met with threats, including warnings that anyone who attempted to record the events would be shot.
Alarmed by the situation, residents contacted the Adenta Police. Officers who responded to the scene attempted to apprehend members of the group, but the individuals allegedly fled with their equipment before any arrests could be made.
Ongoing legal dispute
At the center of the controversy is a long-standing land dispute involving three families—the Graham, Adutso, and Akoblem families—each claiming ownership of portions of the land on which Boi Town is built.
The Graham family, reportedly involved in the April 25 operation, currently holds a Supreme Court judgment in their favor. They had previously lost a case at the High Court to the Adutso family, who subsequently sold land to private individuals, many of whom are now residents of Boi Town. However, the Grahams appealed and won at both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

Residents allege that the Graham family is now demanding a one-time payment of GHC 300,000 per plot, or GHC 400,000 if paid within a year. Attempts by residents to negotiate the sum have allegedly been met with refusals and renewed threats of demolition.
To complicate matters further, the Akoblem family also holds a High Court judgment over the same land and has likewise demanded payments from current occupants.
A Supreme Court case between the Grahams and the Akoblems is said to be ongoing, with many residents hopeful that a final ruling will clarify rightful ownership of the land.
Residents say they are caught in a legal quagmire and are calling on government authorities to intervene and provide clarity and protection. They insist that until a definitive court decision is delivered, no further demolition actions should be allowed.
“This is our home, our life’s investment. We need protection and transparency from both the state and the courts,” said one resident.
As the legal battle continues, the people of Boi Town remain in a state of anxiety, unsure of what the coming days may bring.
