The Director-General of the Ghana National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has assured personnel of a possible increment in their allowances.
This promise follows calls by Service Personnel for an increment in their allowances, citing rising inflation and increasing cost of living.
Speaking on 3FM Sunrise on Wednesday, April 2, with Helen Appiah-Ampofo, Mr. Gyamfi revealed that the President is already considering the move and is actively working towards a solution.
“The current allowance (GHC715), I must say, is inadequate. Discussions with the government are ongoing to adjust the GHC715 stipend to a more sustainable figure that can cushion our (Service Personnel) in these challenging times,” he said.
He, meanwhile, tasked various District Managers of the Authority to ensure that the security and comfort of Service Personnel are catered for.
“District Managers should go back to getting accommodations for Service Personnel who are posted to their districts,” he said.
On President John Mahama’s plans for his government to introduce short military training for National Service Personnel, the Director-General mentioned that “Discussions are ongoing, and we are hoping to begin this year.” Mr. Gyamfi indicates.
President Mahama, on Thursday, February 27, during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term, explained that the initiative aims to instill a sense of fitness and discipline among young people serving the country.
