The Acting Executive Director of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation, Helga Josephine Miranda Boadi, is encouraging youth to make agriculture a priority.
This call to action is especially important now, as the NDC is working to revive the Dawhenya Greenhouse project, a key part of President Mahama’s Agric policy.
The Dawhenya Greenhouse project is a significant initiative, with West Africa’s largest greenhouse facility located in Dawhenya, Greater Accra Region.
The project aims to promote agriculture and provide opportunities for youth employment. Mrs Boadi highlighted the significance of agriculture in creating jobs during her meeting with Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson on February 28 at the Western Regional Council.
She also mentioned that the foundation is considering supporting many youth through the greenhouse project with plans to expand its reach beyond the Western and Western North regions to individuals willing to venture into agriculture.
The GNPC Foundation’s focus on education, health, environment, and social amenities aligns with its goal of improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
By promoting agriculture, the foundation aims to contribute to Ghana’s sustainable development and economic growth.
She said, “Even in agriculture, we built greenhouses at Dawhenya and we’re working to revive that project, which is part of the President’s agric policy.”
“This initiative will create opportunities for many farmers. At the GNPC Foundation, we’re also exploring ways to support agriculture, not just in the Western and Western North regions, but in other areas where we can find the right people who are willing to take part. We’re ready to support them,” she stated.
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson praised Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation for its outstanding work in Ghana.
He said the foundation offers scholarships to eligible Ghanaian students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies at public tertiary institutions in Ghana.
In addition to providing scholarships, the GNPC Foundation focuses on capacity building and skills development. They provide training programs and other initiatives to help individuals develop the skills they need to succeed in their careers.
This includes programs for students and tutors of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Special Needs Education, and Basic Education.
The Minister acknowledged the foundation’s commitment to making a positive difference in Ghana and encouraged them to continue their good work.
Minister Joseph Nelson encouraged Helga Josephine Miranda Boadi, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, emphasizing that “having a love for people, a love for what you do, and a love for your country can be a powerful driving force”.
He noted that passion for one’s work fosters commitment and dedication to achieving goals.
