Bibiani Gold Stars head coach Frimpong Manso believes the unexpected break in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) negatively impacted clubs during the MTN FA Cup Round of 16.
Top-flight sides such as Gold Stars, Hearts of Oak, and Medeama suffered surprising eliminations at the hands of lower-tier teams, raising concerns over their preparedness for competitive football.
“Manso admitted that many GPL clubs struggled to regain their rhythm after the enforced break. “Most Premier League clubs were not fully prepared but had no choice but to honor the MTN FA Cup matches. We had limited time to prepare due to the league’s suspension, and it wasn’t just Gold Stars—several clubs also struggled,” he told West Gold Radio.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko’s postponed fixture against Eleven Wise has been rescheduled for March 12, 2025.
