In a concerted effort to tackle the elephant in the room – matchday security – the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have launched a comprehensive inspection of all league venues ahead of the resumption of the league.
This proactive approach aims to provide a safe haven for players, officials, and fans, as the Ghana Premier League gears up for its highly anticipated return.
The inspections, a key component of the newly unveiled Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025, are designed to identify and address potential safety vulnerabilities, ensuring that all stadiums meet the highest safety standards.
The tragic incident involving Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley, who lost his life during a league match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman at Nsoatre, served as a catalyst for change, prompting the GFA to take bold action to enhance security.
The GFA held successful safety protocols meetings with the Supporters Groups of the the respective clubs, in the bid to kick out hooliganism from Ghana football.
Despite the MTN FA Cup matches taking place over the weekend across various stadiums, signaling the resumption of football activities following the tragic passing of Nana Pooley, the GFA reassured the football fraternity that the league will only recommence once the inspections are finalized and safety benchmarks are fulfilled.
United we stand, the Ghana Football Association has appealed for total collaboration from all stakeholders, stressing that safety remains a paramount concern as the league prepares to recommence.
Meanwhile the GFA has declared 7 March 2025, as the restart date for the GPL.
