West Ham manager Graham Potter has extoled forward Mohammed Kudus after his sensational performance for the Hammers against Arsenal on Saturday.
Kudus showed incredible hold-up play and a solid all-around performance in West Ham’s win at the Emirates.
The visitors were handed a massive boost when Jarrod Bowen’s strike on the cusp of half-time shot them ahead.
Bowen’s 50th Premier League goal ensured the Hammers run out 1-0 victors, ending Arsenal’s 15 Premier League game unbeaten run in the process.
West Ham’s victory, their first in five matches, was masterminded by Kudus’ sheer class as the Ghanaian outwitted Arsenal’s defence.
The 24-year-old run rings around Arsenal’s backline, making it difficult for the Gunners to keep him at bay.
The highlight of Kudus’ nifty display came in the 73rd minute when he was sent tumbling to the ground by Arsenal’s Myles-Lewis Skelly, leading to the 18-year-old being sent off.
Kudus’ inspirational performance drew huge applause from his manager, who credited the Ghanaian’s work rate and training application.
“He was really good. I think everyday, he is a bit of an example. Everyday in training, he’s been really, really good. His effort and his application has been top,” he said.
Kudus’ brilliance on the day was in contrast to West Ham’s underwhelming performances all season, which, according to Potter, hinders individual brilliance.
“Sometimes when the team isn’t functioning as well as you would like, the individuals within it sometimes don’t look as good as they can be. But actually he’s been brilliant and I think he’s got the reward for that today because his performance was fantastic,” he added.
The Hammers are two places above the drop zone and host struggling Leicester on Thursday.
