The Role of the Council of State
The Council of State, established by the 1992 Constitution, serves as an advisory body to the President. Each of Ghana’s 16 regions elects a representative, while the President appoints 11 additional members.
The Council advises on critical national issues, including presidential appointments and policy matters, and convenes at least four times a year to deliberate on governance and development concerns.
With the elections fast approaching, the Western Region’s representatives will soon decide who among these nine contenders will have the mandate to influence national policy at the highest level.
