Former Black Stars midfielder, Derek Boateng, was very critical of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following struggles of the Black Stars to get a suitable pitch in Ghana to play home games.
In recent weeks, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has closed down the Baba Yara Stadium, Accra Sports stadium and Cape Coast stadium in a bid to get these facilities ready for the next round of AFCON qualifiers, where the Black Stars are expected to host Sudan.
This was after a ban by CAF on Ghana’s only approved international venue, Baba Yara Stadium due to poor pitch. The ban means Ghana are searching for a new venue outside the country to host the next Black Stars game.
“The GFA needs to wake up and do something because it is their job to make sure we have good pitches. The only thing they care about is money,” Boateng told 3Sports.
“Our players play on good fields in Europe and then they come and play on s***t pitch and you expect them to perform well and you expect them to win games and if the win is not coming there is a problem.”
“If the GFA care about football, they have to make sure those things are done before the players come because for me they can’t put any pressure on any player that they are not playing well. It’s sad that we in this situation. Ghana has to fight to find a playing field. We don’t need to be there and the FA needs to do something about it,” he concluded.
The Black Stars are currently third in Group F in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers with one point from two games.
