The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South, Lawyer Baffour Awuah, has stated that officials of the Electoral Commission involved in illegal transfer of votes must be prosecuted if fished out.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Kumasi on September 24, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said he will petition the Attorney- General over what he describes as some illegal voter transfer in the Manhyia South Constituency.
“Indeed, as we speak, I am putting together a petition to the Attorney-General’s Office to prosecute all those involved including the main person behind these transfers,” he disclosed.
The move comes after Baffour Awuah petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) over the anomaly.
A Kumasi Magistrate Court on Tuesday (24 September) ordered the reversal of some of these voter transfers.
According to the NPP parliamentary candidate, the basis of his objection is that the over 1,000 voters transferred do not live in Manhyia South.
He said the transfer of votes is deliberately orchestrated to increase the votes of the NDC’s candidate in Manhyia South ahead of the December 7 polls.
” Because this is an organised transfer with the purpose of assisting the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to increase their votes in the upcoming elections in Manhyia South.”
” You know, we need to deter people from committing such offences in our society so that we can have a very high degree of integrity when it comes to the electoral process,” he added.
