Black Stars and Fenerbahçe defender Alexander Djiku suffered a thigh strain in Fenerbahçe’s 3-0 home win over Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday.
Djiku was replaced by Rodrigo Becao after 61 minutes, with Fenerbahçe’s medical team confirming the Ghanaian has a strained right thigh, ruling him out for up to two weeks.
The center back was named in Black Stars manager Otto Addo’s squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifying games against Angola and Niger on Thursday.
Djiku was amongst the last batch of players to report at the team‘s training base in June’s internationals after suffering a hand injury.
However, it remains to be seen if head coach Otto Addo would call up other defenders to fill up the void, or solely rely on the defensive covers provided by Abdul Mumin, Mohammed Salisu, Jerome Opoku, and Alidu Seidu.
Ghana take on Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara stadium, before flying out to face Niger on September 9 in Morocco.
