A new season of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) count down series has commenced the sports channel of Ghana Television (GTV Sports ), a few days ahead of the next edition of the competition to be staged in Cote d’Ivoire.
The countdown series produced by MOFA Productions started airing last week with very interesting content and hosted by veteran journalist and lawyer, Mr Moses Foh Amoaning.
“The 30 minutes power packed, 13-part documentary series on the history of 66 years of top flight African football will keep viewers glued to their sets with gripping archival footage including the timeless Mfum ‘atete’ net story in 1963 and the sublime skills of Mohammed Polo and Abdul Razak in the 1978 edition when the Black Stars won the first AFCON Cup for keeps,” Mr Amoaning, CEO of MOFA Production stated.
Viewers, he said, would also enjoy lively segments like facts file, legends of the past, fan zone and the 200 ‘buga’ goals.
It is also expected to be spiced up by the hypnotic appearance of highlife and hiplife icons like Pat Thomas, Amandzeba, Amakyede and Sarkodie.
Speaking to the Times Sports, Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, who doubles as the Host and Executive Producer/Director of the series, confirmed that the first three episodes will focus on the 1957, 1959, 1962, 1963 and 1965 AFCON tournaments.
He said Episode 4 will be on the 1968 and 1970 editions dominated by the tactical brilliance of Ben Kouffie and the sheer technical mastery of Joe Ghartey and the mercurial Sunday lbrahim.
There would also be a stimulating interview with former Ghana Football Association Vice President, Fred Pappoe, on the fortunes of the Black Stars.
The programme is supported by Hisense, SHC and Kempong Travel and Tours.
