Ghana’s hopes for a medal in the men’s 100 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were dashed as both Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu failed to qualify for the final.
Azamati, the national record holder, was unable to replicate his impressive heat performance in the semi-finals. Clocking a time of 10.17 seconds, he finished ninth overall and missed out on a place in the final.
Saminu, making his Olympic debut, also fell short, finishing seventh in his semi-final with a time of 10.05 seconds.
The results mark a disappointing end to Ghana’s sprint campaign in Paris. Azamati will now focus on the 4x100m relay, where he hopes to contribute to the team’s bid for a medal.
Ghanaian athletics fans will be hoping for better fortunes in future Olympics, with the aim of producing a sprinter capable of reaching the final of the blue-riband event.
