Despite hosting a five-day social event last week, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has promised Ghanaians that they will maintain the Baba Yara Stadium in top condition for any authorised game.
The Baba Yara Stadium is currently the only approved venue for CAF and FIFA international matches.
In just 35 days, Ghana will play Angola at home in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers.
Last week’s church event on the pitch sparked widespread concern on social media.
The NSA’s public relations officer in the Ashanti region, Mrs. Patience Adams, in an interview with Akoma FM went into detail about the reasoning behind giving the stadium to the church, stating that it is a way to raise money for stadium maintenance.
”We know how the pitch maintenance is and the cost involved, and also the public must know that the stadium is not solely for football activities but also social events are allowed.
During off seasons, there are no football activities and the only means to generate funds to be able to maintain the facility, we may need some of these social events.”
Mrs Patience Adams highlighted that work has begun on the pitch and revealed the church’s readiness to provide financial support in the event of any damages.
”As we speak, we wait for our pitch covers, but we had a plan B for this event by reaching agreement with the church to assist us should in case there are any damages that may occur due to the program, they are ever ready to pay for those damages.”
Mrs. Adams, however, reassured Ghanaians that there is no need for concern because their pitch will be in perfect condition for the sanctioned match.
”Ghanaians should not worried at all, we are seeking for other means in maintaining the stadium that is why activities as such are allowed and also we have giving ourselves some timeframe where works on the pitch is beginning right away.”
”The pitch will be in a good and the best condition for any game sanction to be played here either Black Stars game or the Caf inter club competition, there is no cause for alarm, that I can assure Ghanaians.” She concluded.
