A member of the communications team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Maleek Basintale has rubbished the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Opoku Prempeh for the upcoming December elections.
Speaking on an X space organized by TV3 on July 6, Maleek Basintale said the track record of the NPP is a proof that Ghanaians must vote out the party during the December 7 polls.
Mr. Basintale criticised the NPP’s presidential ticket for the 2024 elections highlighting the many shortfalls of this government and stated that it will be a “bad choice” for Ghanaians to vote for the NPP.
“The score card has been passed for NAPO and we need not to even debate his candidature. He brings nothing on board like I said…I will plead on the Ghanaian people not to even think of a Bawumia-NAPO ticket.
“If you tie a donkey cart to a dead donkey, it cannot take you anywhere. This team is crushed and many NPP persons are disappointed in Bawumia-NAPO ticket,” he said.
According to him, the NDC is rather happy with the choice of the NPP and politically welcomes it as the party hopes for better days ahead.
The National Council of the NPP unanimously endorsed Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh at an emergency meeting held in Accra on Thursday, July 4.
President Akufo-Addo said the partnership is an excellent one that will win the 2024 general elections for the NPP.
Speaking to journalists after the confirmation, President Akufo-Addo said, “National Council has endorsed the nomination of Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh to be the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The NPP has an excellent ticket and we’re going to win with this ticket on 7th December 2024, that’s the news. The feeling is good, they make a very good pair, and they are going to win.”
Dr. Opoku Prempeh has since accepted the position of the running mate to Dr. Bawumia and assured NPP supporters that he will help Dr Bawumia to break the 8-year election cycle.
