Manchester City redeemed themselves from their Champions League quarter-final disappointment by securing a spot in the FA Cup final with a late goal from Bernardo Silva, which proved decisive against Chelsea.
Silva’s goal marked his personal redemption after his missed penalty kick played a significant role in City’s loss to Real Madrid.
The Portuguese midfielder capitalised on a well-placed cross from Kevin de Bruyne, finding the back of the net at the far post to secure a 1-0 win at Wembley.
Despite Chelsea’s valiant efforts and numerous scoring opportunities, particularly for striker Nicolas Jackson, they were unable to find the net.
This defeat added to Chelsea’s woes at Wembley, following their recent extra-time penalty shootout loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
Adding to Chelsea’s frustration was the controversial decision by the video assistant referee (VAR) to deny them a second-half penalty.
The Blues were left incensed after Jack Grealish’s handball in the wall from Cole Palmer’s free-kick went unnoticed by the VAR, further compounding their sense of injustice.
With their FA Cup final berth secured, Manchester City now have their sights set on a potential double of Premier League and FA Cup titles.
They await the outcome of the other semi-final clash between arch-rivals Manchester United and Championship side Coventry City to determine their opponent in the final.
