2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist, Joseph Commey, has reached the final of the boxing event at the 2023 African Games.
Commey won by a majority decision (4-1) against Algeria’s Mordjiane Oussama in the 60kg semi-final.
Mohammed Aryeetey also make it to the final via a unanimous decision over Moroccan boxer Hamza Essaadi in the 48kg weight class.
Commey forfeited the final of the 2022 Commonwealth Games due to illness. With the final set for Friday, he believes he can win gold this time.
“I’m feeling good. This is the time for me so I’m feeling blessed. This is the time for me to prove myself. The Commonwealth Games is past. I believe that I can win gold for Ghana,” Commey told 3Sports.
Janet Acquah, the only Ghanaian female who made it to the medal zone, lost her semi-final bout earlier, securing bronze.
Four more Ghanaians are in contention for the final; Samuel Takyi, Abubakar Kamoko, Theophilus Allotey and Mohammed Amadu.
All four boxers will fight on Thursday night.
