The Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, Akwasi Awua Ababio contrary to public perception has shared that Ghana is leveraging visits by Hollywood stars in a major way.
Mr Awua Abaibio in a recent conversation on TV3’s Twitter space, highlighted the various institutions in Ghana that are responsible for handling these international stars and facilitating their interactions with local stakeholders.
Mr Ababio who was reacting to how Ghana has leveraged the visits of Hollywood Stars as part of the ‘Beyond the Return campaign’ stressed that the country has dedicated institutions, such as the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ghana Film Industry, that are well-equipped to handle interactions with Hollywood stars.
“There are various institutions in this country well set up to deal with these people as and when they make the necessary approach. GTA for one has organized classes for those who have an interest to meet certain groups of people and interact with them,” he noted.
According to Awua Ababio, these institutions have clear procedures and guidelines in place, positioning Ghana ahead of some other countries in leveraging such opportunities.
“The Ghana Film Industry also has well-laid-down procedures and processes for dealing with whoever comes within the space of film production. The creative art directors also have well-laid-out plans. There are dedicated institutions very well set up with clear procedures and guidelines as to how to deal with them. I think we are ahead of the game than some other countries,” he said on the Twitter Space hosted by 3 Entertainment‘s Anita Akuffo
Deputy CEO of the National Film Authority, Kofi Oduro Adinkra who also spoke for the government added that the National Film Authority is currently enjoying a level of comfort and an impressive reputation.
“We are at a very good place currently for a couple of reasons. It is important we appreciate the stage at which we are. For instance, on the entire continent of Africa, there are just about 40% of countries that have film authorities,” he shared.
He also emphasized the need for establishing the necessary structures to ensure sustainable growth and development.
“If we don’t ensure that all these structures are in place, there is going to be very little we can take away. It will end there and the real major conversation has to do with the market and how it is streamlined in terms of capacity,” he shared.
Adinkra acknowledged that the film industry in Ghana, as well as the country itself, has been gaining a positive image and experiencing a good ride in the international arena.
“To be honest, when we get into these conversations, the kind of image the film industry in Ghana has out there, Ghana as a country and the industry itself are really having a good ride,” he intimated.
