
A 23-year-old illegal miner, has been jailed five years by the Nkawie circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti, region for stealing three mobile phones.
Francis Amadu, alias Kojo Amadu, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Detective Inspector Dickson Kwaku Frimpong, told the court that the complainant, Eric Eyezera, and the convict, were residents of Nweneso Number One.
The court, presided by Mr Robert Addo, heard that when the complainant and his brother were asleep, at Atwima Nweneso, Amadu sneaked into their room, and stole their mobile phones, all valued at GH¢3,350.00.
Insp Frimpong said the complainant and his brother woke up and attempted to arrest Amadu, but he escaped with the booty.
The prosecution said the case was reported to the Unit Committee Member of the town, and a search party was organised to look for the convict.
Insp Frimpong explained that the convict was arrested from his hideout at Nweneso with the phones and handed over to the police at Atwima Hwidiem.
The convict admitted the offence in his caution statement. –GNA
