GRA urges entities to stop charging 1% e-levy from all channels

 The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says all charging entities must stop charging the one per cent Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) from all their channels.

It said the directive took effect from the midnight of Wednesday, April 2.

A statement issued by the GRA and copied to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday said, its Electronic Transfer Management and Assurance System would automatically return to a ‘no charge’ on all transactions posted to it by entities from midnight of yesterday.

“Charging entities must im­mediately process refunds for any E-Levy amount deducted from customers effective from today April 2, 2025. Entities are to establish an expedited refund process to handle such cases promptly and maintain proper documentation of all refunds processed. Report of such funds must be submitted to GRA,” the Authority stated.

The statement said charging entities should take the nec­essary steps to file and pay all outstanding E-Levy charged and collected on all transac­tions that occur before April 2, 2025.

That, it said was expected to take effect from April 2, 2025.

“In accordance with our previous communication regarding implementation guidelines, this letter serves as formal authorisation for you to proceed with the deployment of the no charge configura­tion on your platforms,” the statement said.

The government in the campaign for the 2024 general election promised to cancel the E-Levy when voted into power.

Consequently the Finance Minister in the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy of gov­ernment announced to cancel the E-Levy.

Eventually, Parliament passed a law to cancel the E-Levy and the President has assented to it
