
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Constable John Kwabena Dogbey.
The officer who was part of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce deployed for duty at Assin Domeabra drowned in River Offin during anti-galmsey operation at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 02, 2025. According to a statement from the police, preliminary investigation has revealed that the Constable slipped and fell into the Offin river while he was dismantling a Chanfan machine belonging to the illegal miners.
The police said with the help of some divers, he was found after hours of intensive rescue efforts and conveyed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital, Assin Foso where the medical officer on duty pronounced him dead.

The deceased body has been conveyed to the Police Hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Police administration is in touch with the deceased family to provide the needed support in these difficult times.
Meanwhile, the Taskforce was able to dismantle one Chanfan machine, take custody of two pumping machines, two Excavator batteries and three Excavator keys and their chassis numbers.
