The As I Grow Organisation (AIG), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to improving lives in deprived communities has extended a helping hand to children at Nsutapong Bornya, a suburb of Klo-Agogo, in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region.
It has presented a wide range of educational items and supplies to enhance teaching and learning at Nsutapong Bornya, including Over 1,000 Exercise books for kindergarten pupils, Textbooks and Activity books.
The rest are whiteboards, pencils, erasers and sharpeners, markers and brand-new clothes for the children. Other items are a teacher’s table, tables and chairs for pupils and dusters.
The visit followed an urgent call for support after a disturbing video was sent to the Chief Executive Officer of AIG, Mr. Debrah Bekoe Isaac, by a community health worker, Madam Owusu Faustina Alextina.
The footage revealed children under the age of seven, who lacked access to basic learning materials and facilities.
These children, numbering 32, live miles away from the nearest school and are unable to commute due to the poor condition of the roads, as a result they have been receiving informal education in an abandoned structure, previously used by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Moved by their plight, the NGO mobilised resources amounting to GH?30,000 to provide essential educational materials and logistics to improve their learning environment.
Mr. Debrah Bekoe Isaac, CEO of As I Grow, expressed deep concern over the state of the children, many of whom were seated on wooden benches without any learning materials.
He described the scene as heart-breaking and immediately called on benevolent individuals and partners to assist the NGO in rescuing the situation.
Mr. Debrah Bekoe reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting deprived communities across Ghana and called on the public and corporate bodies to contribute to AIG’s mission of transforming rural education.
“Education is the foundation of every community’s progress. We cannot leave these children behind simply because of where they were born,” he said.
The As I Grow Organisation pledged to continue monitoring the welfare of the Nsutapong Bornya children and to advocate for the inclusion of the community in national educational support initiatives, such as the school feeding programme.
