Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have described Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, one of the five aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer slot, ahead of the 2028 general elections, as the candidate who carries little political baggage compared to his contenders.
They expressed confidence in his integrity, an attribute they believe will be crucial for securing victory for the party in the 2028 general elections.
According to the delegates, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum’s humility and leadership qualities, particularly the transformation witnessed in the education sector during his tenure as Minister of Education, make him stand out in the contest.
Many of them pledged their full support and promised to vote for him in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
This strong endorsement came as Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum commenced his Ashanti Regional campaign on Tuesday, November 25.
The former Education Minister was warmly received by party supporters and delegates when he visited the Atwima Nwabiagya South, Atwima Nwabiagya North and Bosomtwe constituencies. His interactions with the delegates were marked by enthusiastic receptions and open declarations of support.

Addressing the delegates, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said his desire to lead the party and eventually Ghana stems from a personal mission to confront poverty head-on.
He explained that his upbringing as the son of a cocoa farmer exposed him to the harsh realities of deprivation.
Despite achieving excellent grades, he recounted the struggles he faced in securing admission to secondary school, describing his journey out of poverty as a testimony of divine grace.
These experiences, he said, fuel his determination to offer leadership that places the needs of the poor at the centre of national development.
“I have lived through poverty, and that is why I am committed to improving the lives of Ghanaians, especially those trapped in extreme hardship,” he told the delegates, who responded with loud applause.
Dr. Adutwum noted that the current levels of poverty in the country require deliberate and well-thought-out strategies anchored on sustainable programmes.
He outlined a strong focus on quality education, particularly STEM and TVET, as a pillar of his vision for national development.
To illustrate his commitment, he highlighted his long-running initiative in the Bosomtwe Constituency, where he sponsors hundreds of students to study engineering and medicine.
He said he plans to scale this model up nationwide to produce the calibre of human resources needed to eradicate poverty.
He called for a comprehensive manpower needs assessment to identify the skills gaps in the country and guide universities to train a workforce aligned with Ghana’s development priorities. Such an approach, he argued, would enhance productivity, expand the economy, and create more jobs.
To address graduate unemployment, Dr Adutwum proposed a national retraining programme for graduates whose qualifications do not match industry demands. He stressed that it is unacceptable for graduates to remain jobless simply because their certificates do not align with available opportunities. Citing examples from other countries with limited natural resources, he said Ghana can transform its economy through technology and innovation.
His vision also places emphasis on expanding employment opportunities for young people across all sectors as a means of stimulating economic growth.
On internal party matters, Dr Adutwum pledged to appoint a dedicated welfare officer at the Presidency to address concerns of grassroots party members.
Every constituency, he added, would have its own welfare officer who would compile local issues and forward them for action at the national level.
He assured delegates that an Adutwum administration would not overlook the sacrifices and hard work of the grassroots members whose efforts would contribute to his presidency.
NPP needs a leader with “bold and substantive” Vision
Meanwhile, our correspondent, Oswald P. Freiku is quoting Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum as saying that NPP needs a candidate with “bold and substantive” vision to help party recapture power.
This vision, which will help the party earn the trust of the citizenry to vote the party to power in the next election. Speaking in an interview with Lawson TV/Radio, Dr. Osei-Adutwum told the host, Kwame Tanko (K.T) that these reasons influenced his decision to aspire for the Flagbearership of the NPP, hence his campaign is focused on “poverty alleviation” in the country.
“Your vision must haunt you as a person”, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum noted, making reference to his tenure as the Minister of Education in the previous administration, which has been touted by both NPP and NDC supporters for which it was recommended that he be retained in the new administration.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum revealed that his campaign was mainly focused on the fight against poverty and longevity, disclosing that studies have revealed that 45 and 25 percent of Ghanaians are respectively impoverished and destitute, which according to him, was not good for the nation’s development and must be addressed.
He also told his host that Ghanaians needed to change their ways of doing things to achieve positive results, through the education, agriculture and health sectors, explaining that China was a very poor nation, but it took a visionary leader to implement policies to transform China into one of the powerful nations in the world.
He saw himself as the visionary leader Ghana needed to transform the nation and make it a prosperous one.
