A Philanthropist has constructed a 10 kilometre road from Wamase, through Kokotenten, to link the main Obuasi-Dunkwa trunk road, from his own resources.
The stretch replaces an old one constructed in a swampy area by the AGA, as a thoroughfare for its mining activities.
The gesture by Mr. Joshua Agyei, a native of Wamase, in the Akrofuom District of Ashanti region, is expected to facilitate human traffic and movement of farm produce to urban markets.

It followed pleas by the chiefs and people and opinion leaders in the surrounding communities to come to their aid.
Mr. Joshua Agyei, who is also a miner, has provided a number of social interventions for Wamase community.
These include renovation of the local market, school, water and clinic, as well as the provision of footbridges in the Wamase community.

Nana Kwadwo Nkrumah II and Nana Kwadwo Fordjour, chiefs of Adansi Wamase and Kokotenten respectively, have commended their benefactor for coming to their rescue.
They said Joshua Agyei is a patriot, generous, selfless and dedicated to the welfare of the people of Wamase and that his deeds of charity and various efforts in providing social interventions towards developing the area is highly recommendable.
The chiefs attributed about 60 percent of development in the area to his singular efforts and appealed to the government to partner with him, in providing other interventions for the locality to enhance rural development.

The community leaders assured that they would mobilise labour for all projects to complement efforts by the government and philanthropists towards development.
Mr Nicholas Wireko Brobbey, Assembly member for Wamase Electoral area, described Joshua Agyei as a saviour, having solved a major challenge facing the communities, by the construction of the road.
According to him, commerce and economic activities were limited and that the improved road network has raised living standards as it is now easier to commute to urban areas to access essential services such as healthcare, education and other social amenities.
He said the fear of loss of lives particularly of pregnant women as a result of the previous deplorable road is now eliminated by Agyei’s timely intervention.

The Assemblyman appealed to the District Assembly to provide Mr. Joshua Agyei with the necessary support to enable him champion development in the area.
He noted that a reliable road network was a key component in the fight against poverty as it improves access to opportunities and essential services and pleaded that the District Assembly focuses on maintenance through the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

This, he said, would boost rural economic activities and connectivity and hoped the improved road network will result in increased agricultural output, increase in farm commodity prices, reduce waste and create more opportunities for rural businesses as well as improved lifestyle for residents.
