Third-placed Heart of Lions will pursue a crucial victory against Aduana FC on Friday afternoon, a result that would move them into second place as the matchday unfolds.
The game takes place at the Kpando Sports Stadium, where Lions remain unbeaten this season, a record that should give them confidence against the side currently occupying second spot.
Lions enter the contest in a difficult run, with no win in their last three matches. They fell to Nations FC last weekend after successive draws with Vision FC and Karela United. Defensive lapses continue to trouble the team, having conceded four goals in their last three games, and improved organisation at the back could influence their prospects.
Despite sitting only three points off the summit, Lions have missed several chances to take control of the table. Coach Bashir Hayford expressed his frustration after the 2-1 loss to Nations FC.
"I think because of the wins we have been getting, my top players, who call themselves senior players, have become complacent. I believe they are joking with their responsibilities. I need to put them on their feet. The complacency is too much, and that is why we lost. Honestly, my so-called experienced players have let me down," he said.
He added, "I am very disappointed. We have had the chance to go top on five occasions, and each time the opportunity comes, we fail to take it. We have to return to the drawing board."
Aduana FC arrive at Kpando after a draw with Basake Holy Stars last Sunday. They hold the stronger head-to-head record in this fixture, with nine wins from their 16 meetings, compared to Lions’ two, with the rest ending in draws. That history may offer encouragement, though Lions approach the match as the more wounded side with a clear point to prove.
Aduana have also struggled for form. They recently led the league, but their inability to secure maximum points against Bibiani Gold Stars and Basake Holy Stars has left them two points off the top. Another setback on Friday could widen that gap and complicate their ambitions.
