Ghana defender Gideon Mensah has praised the competitive environment fostered within the Black Stars squad, saying it ensures that every player must earn their place for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
"He said everybody’s going to get their fair chance. We have very good players in Ghana, Africa, and Europe. Qualifying with the team doesn’t really guarantee you a spot at the World Cup. You have to prove that you can be there," Mensah explained.
According to the Auxerre defender, even players who contributed to Ghana’s qualification cannot take their place for granted. The approach encourages a high-performance culture within the squad, keeping players motivated and focused ahead of the upcoming tournament.
Mensah, who helped Ghana secure consecutive World Cup appearances following Qatar 2022, said the competition strengthens the team and ensures that the final squad is composed of players in top form.
The 27-year-old has made 36 appearances for Ghana since his debut in 2019 and has assisted four goals. He is currently in the national team camp ahead of friendlies against Japan and South Korea.
