Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffo has backed the team to secure a win against Hearts of Oak this weekend when the two giants face off in the first Super Clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The retired footballer visited the team’s training grounds on Friday to motivate the players ahead of the upcoming showdown.
Speaking to AKSC Media on the sidelines of the visit, Akuffo argued that, although Kotoko recently suffered a humiliating defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup, the team is strong enough to overcome their bitterest rivals.
“In football, anything can happen. Even after losing big to Wydad, we were able to beat Karela 4-2. Looking at the team’s training, I believe the boys can do something against Hearts of Oak on Sunday. I’m here to support them and motivate them for the game,” the former Kotoko player said.
Hearts of Oak will host Asante Kotoko on Sunday, November 9, in a Week 9 fixture of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Hearts of Oak head into the game sitting fourth on the league table with 16 points from their first eight matches. Kotoko, on the other hand, occupy the eighth position with 11 points and three outstanding matches.
This weekend's Super Clash is scheduled to kick off at 4 pm at Accra Sports Stadium. A win for either side will be key in advancing their aspiration to clinch the Premier League title at the end of the campaign.
