Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has expressed disappointment with his team’s performance following their 1-0 loss to Wydad Athletic Club in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second-round playoff at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors fell behind early in the second half after failing to deal with a corner kick, and things got worse when goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was sent off for handling the ball outside his penalty area. Despite a spirited effort from the remaining ten men, Kotoko were unable to find an equaliser.
Speaking after the match, Karim Zito admitted that his players did not meet his expectations.
"I am now going into their psyche to see why they played the way they did, because it’s not too bad, but this wasn’t what I was expecting from them. We did a lot of work and they rested well," he said.
Kotoko will travel to Casablanca for the decisive return leg on Friday, October 24, knowing they must overturn the deficit to progress to the group stage. The Ghanaian giants had earlier eliminated Nigeria’s Kwara United 5-3 on aggregate in the first round.
