Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane bagged a brace on Tuesday night, leading Senegal to a crucial 4-0 victory against Mauritania as the Teranga Lions booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Teranga Lions went into the final World Cup qualifier today, needing nothing but a win to avoid any upset from DR Congo, who trailed them in the Group B standings by just two points.
Leading by example as captain, Sadio Mane opened the scoring for his country in added time of the first half.
Three minutes into the second half, Mane scored his second of the day, completing a fantastic brace to inspire the Teranga Lions to a huge victory at full-time.
Iliman Ndiaye and Habib Diallo netted the two other goals for the home team in the match played at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade.
The result meant that a win for DR Congo against Sudan would not deny Senegal qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With 24 points, Senegal finished top of Group B and earned an automatic qualification to the World Cup next year.
