Former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe has issued a strong warning against critics of goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, defending the in-form shot-stopper's impressive record in the World Cup qualifiers.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper has maintained five clean sheets in as many qualifying matches, yet faces scrutiny from some quarters who question the quality of opposition he has faced.
"I don't know why people are making an issue of it," Pappoe stated emphatically in an interview with Citi Sports. "The man has been given a job to do, and he - Benjamin Asare - is doing the job, so what is our point?"
Pappoe emphasised that Asare has perfectly executed his primary responsibility, stating "We put him into the goalpost to make sure we don't have balls entering our net...and he is doing just that. It's not a call we should be making now."
The former football administrator's defense comes as Asare is expected to start in goal for Ghana's final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros on Sunday, with the Black Stars needing just one point to secure their World Cup qualification.
