Medeama SC will look to climb to the summit of the Ghana Premier League when they face Dreams FC at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Friday.
The defending champions returned to winning ways last weekend with a hard-fought victory over Nations FC, a result that lifted them to second place on the table, just one point behind leaders Heart of Lions. A win in front of their home fans could see them end the weekend on top, and given their form in Tarkwa, they will be confident of doing so.
The Mauve and Yellow have maintained a perfect home record this season and boast an impressive recent run against Dreams FC, winning three of their last five league meetings at the TnA Stadium. Head coach Ibrahim Tanko’s men have found their rhythm again and will aim to keep the pressure on the early pacesetters.
Dreams FC, on the other hand, are enduring a difficult start to the campaign. The “Still Believe” side sit 17th on the log with just one point from four matches (L3, D1). Their 1-1 draw with Vision FC last weekend offered a glimmer of hope, but their lack of cutting edge in front of goal continues to concern head coach Winfred Dormon.
"We are playing some very interesting football, but the results haven’t gone our way," Dormon told club media ahead of the game. "It’s only a matter of time before the goals start coming and the wins follow. We just need to stay focused and keep believing."
Having scored only twice and conceded five times this season, Dreams will need a major turnaround to challenge a dominant Medeama side. Dormon’s men must produce their best performance yet to avoid another difficult evening in Tarkwa.
Medeama’s home form makes them overwhelming favourites, but Dreams FC will draw motivation from their underdog status as they search for their first win of the season. A positive result in Tarkwa could serve as a turning point, while Medeama’s focus remains firmly on reclaiming the top spot and reinforcing their title defence.
