The Pharaohs of Egypt booked their qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday afternoon with an emphatic 3-0 victory against Djibouti.
In the game played at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, the home team, Djibouti, stood no chance against the seven-time Africa Cup of Nations champions.
Egypt asserted their dominance very early on the matchday, scoring after just eight minutes into the first half.
Ibrahim Adel opened the scoring for the Pharaohs after he was set up by highly-rated attacker Zizo.
Just six minutes later, Mohamed Salah, who is enduring a dry patch in front of goal at Liverpool, found the back of the net to double the lead for his country after he was set up by former Aston Villa winger Trezeguet.
Leading 2-0 at halftime, there was no way Egypt was going to allow Djibouti to come back into the game.
The Pharaohs continued to dominate the game and sealed the deal in the 84th minute thanks to a second goal by talisman Mohamed Salah, this time assisted by Marwan Ateya.
With 23 points in nine matches, Egypt have secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Pharaohs will be returning to the tournament after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
